Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site

The city of Dachau with its concentration camp memorial is located about 20 kilometers northeast of Munich and only a few minutes by car from Unterschleißheim.

The Dachau Concentration Camp is the only one that existed during the entire period of the Third Reich. Correspondingly large is the historical documentation that fills an entire warehouse and can also be seen in a documentary shown on the site.

The memorial site counts around 800,000 visitors annually. Despite this large number, people are lost in the huge terrain. In addition to the documentation, visitors can visit the prisoners' quarters, the two crematoria and the huge field on which the foundations of the former shelters are housed, which served as an appellate court. All facilities are meticulously explained with the help of panels in German and Englisch. You can visit guided tours or get an audioguide at the visitor center at the entrance.

Directly in front of the entrance is a bus stop; opposite is a large parking lot. It is open daily from 9am to 5pm, admission is free.

Allow three to four hours for a visit.
